Updated over a week ago

Overview

We are excited to introduce a new feature that allows users to manage sitemap files within Property Settings. This feature enhances the control over the URLs in your account and enables cross-domain linking, allowing links to pass between different websites. This article will guide you through the functionalities and benefits of the Sitemap Index Admin feature.

Key Features

1. Manage Sitemap Files:

  • Add Sitemap Files: Easily add new sitemap files to your account. This initiates the processing of all URLs contained in the sitemaps for internal linking.

  • Remove Sitemap Files: Remove unwanted sitemap files along with all URLs within them. Users will receive a warning: “Removing this sitemap file will remove all URLs contained in it. This action cannot be undone.” Confirm or cancel the action accordingly.

2. Cross-Domain Linking:

  • Add External Sitemaps: Incorporate sitemaps from different domains into your account. This functionality allows for cross-domain linking, improving the interconnectivity between multiple websites you manage.

Benefits

  • Enhanced Control: Manage and customize the sitemap files associated with your properties, ensuring the URLs in your account are up-to-date and relevant.

  • Improved SEO: Cross-domain linking enhances the SEO potential by distributing link equity across multiple domains, potentially increasing organic traffic.

  • Efficient Handling of URLs: Easily add or remove URLs from your account by managing the corresponding sitemap files, keeping your internal linking structure organized and effective.

How to Use the Sitemap Index Admin Feature

1. Access Property Settings:

  • Navigate to the Property Settings page from your dashboard.

2. Adding a Sitemap File:

  • Click on the “Add Sitemap File” button.

  • The system will automatically process the URLs for internal linking.

3. Removing a Sitemap File:

  • Locate the sitemap file you wish to remove in the list.

  • Click the “X” next to the sitemap file.

  • Confirm the removal when prompted, noting that this action will delete all associated URLs.

4. Adding External Sitemaps for Cross-Domain Linking:

  • Follow the same steps as adding a sitemap file, but use a sitemap from a different domain.

  • This will enable linking between the different websites, boosting your SEO efforts.

Important Considerations

  • Sitemap Deletion: Removing a sitemap file and its URLs is permanent and cannot be undone. Ensure you no longer need the URLs before confirming the deletion.

  • Cross-Domain Links: When adding external sitemaps, verify the domains are correctly configured to leverage cross-domain link equity effectively.
